Briquetting presses

Briquetting presses are used for reducing the volume of shavings, mill chippings and sawdust, but also for compacting renewable raw materials, such as miscanthus.  Apart from facilitating the energetic utilisation of these materials, our machines reduce storage and transport costs to a significant extent, which makes them economically attractive.

Products made of wood and wooden composites are subject to an ever decreasing life span.  Left at the end of their useful life, or generated as by-products at wood-processing companies, large quantities of waste wood as well as waste materials and residues containing wood require reprocessing.

This prompted AMIS to design briquetting presses in different sizes so as to complete and expand their range of machines for the wood sector. These presses are made almost exclusively at AMIS’s in-house production facilities.

Created from wood chips, wood shavings, sawdust etc., the briquettes are an ideal solution for reducing transport and storage costs.  Even though the briquetting press has a small footprint, it comes in a sturdy design featuring low-maintenance technology and high performance.

Offering throughputs between 30 and 500 kg/unit, they have been designed primarily for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The wood briquettes are ideal for being combusted in wood carburettors or smaller woodchip boilers/heating plants.  Any material (wood chips, wood shavings, sawdust, mill chippings etc.) produced at wood-processing companies can be turned into briquettes.  However, the process of briquetting is not limited to wood. It is also possible to compact totally different materials, such as paper, biomass, foam or Styrofoam.

It goes without saying that we also offer pre-shredding equipment in the form of a wood shredder and its associated auxiliary equipment.

The following AMIS briquetting presses are available:

  • ZBP 30, 50, 60 and 70 series: these presses operate with briquetting diameters of 2x 30, 50, 60 and/or 70 mm
  • ZBP 40: This cost-efficient machine is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses.  It convinces with a sensational price-performance ratio.
  • ZBP 60 L: compact, “plug-and- play” briquetting press
  • ZBP 500: With throughput capacities of up to 500 kg/unit, this press produces rectangular briquettes in dimensions of 150 x 60 / 40-105 mm.

Technical Data / Description

  • Permanently rotating agitator with discharge screw conveyor for feeding the material into the compression unit
  • Separately arranged hydraulic unit for easy access during maintenance work
  • User-friendly PLC for fully automated operation of ZBP models 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70
  • Dustproof filling shaft with sensors for smooth operation
  • Wide range of options, such as variable container dimensions, left-hand and right-hand version, dual variants, oil cooler, oil heating, fill level monitoring, oil level sensor, briquette length monitoring, etc.

Mode of Operation

The material is fed in through a high-volume storage container.  Using a permanently rotating agitator, a screw conveyor installed in the bottom transports the material into the compression chamber, where a pressure cylinder forms it into briquettes.  The throughput capacities during the briquetting process depend on the density and the specific weight.  Deviations in the length are prevented by automated briquette length monitoring.  A Siemens PLC takes care of the control.
